One of our longest-standing partnerships is with Gray & Adams, a leading manufacturer of temperature-controlled and bespoke vehicles. For many years, we’ve supplied a custom gearbox motor system with a special torque limiter and output flange, a design they return to year after year as part of their standard build specification.
The challenge
Temperature-controlled trailers face some of the harshest conditions in the transport sector, often operating at –30°C and below. In such extremes, even proven systems can highlight areas where refinements bring long-term benefits.
Working together, we identified an opportunity to make adjustments to strengthen resilience under these demanding conditions. For an OEM trusted by the biggest retailers in the country, maintaining absolute confidence in every component was critical.
The solution
Collaboration was key. Our engineering team worked alongside Gray & Adams to review how environmental stresses interacted with the geared motor system. From mounting positions to drainage and orientation, we examined every detail.
The outcome was a refined brush box and cable exit design, giving the geared motor even greater protection against moisture build-up and ensuring performance in freezing conditions. These enhancements were then introduced into all future builds.
